Given worldwide fame by the movie “Coco,” Dia de los Muertos is a spectacular holiday celebrated in Mexico that honors those who have passed away. Kids will have the opportunity to paint their faces in beautiful patterns typical of this celebration.

Carnaval is celebrated throughout Latin America and has its roots in Catholicism. Colorful and different, it will surely be a favorite for kids.

The MSO Cougar Youth Wrestling Club, a volunteer parent-run organization sponsored by the Maplewood Recreation Department, will give kids the opportunity to practice in a fun environment. Grades 1-8
Kids will engage with the art of flamenco dance while they learn about the core elements: castañuelas (castanets), cuerpo (body posture), braceo (arm positions), flores (“flowers” made with the hands), and zapateado (footwork). They will try out the mantón (shawl) and abanico (fan). They will learn to clap the alegrías palmas rhythm as well to clap along with live flamenco performances of the alegrías style.
Grades K-6: 12:30 - 2:30 - 4:00
Play and learn traditional songs and games in Spanish. Kids don’t need to speak Spanish to attend this activity.
Grades PreK-3: 1:00 PM / Grades 3-6: 2:00 PM / Grades PreK-3: 3:30 PM

Kids will dance to contagious music and learn zumba moves in this high energy activity.
